#KSRCrew Spotlight with Russ Wojcik
Get to know the people behind the insights in our #KSRCrew Spotlight series. We sit down with employees throughout the firm to learn about their experiences, backgrounds, and what makes them tick.
In this edition of #KSRCrew Spotlight, we chat with Russ Wojcik, IT Business Manager on the Decision Sciences & Innovation Team. Discover his proudest accomplishment, what brings him the greatest joy, and more about his journey in this Q&A.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the KS&R team?
What I enjoy most about being part of the KS&R team is the variety of challenges that keep the work fresh, along with the support of sharp, knowledgeable colleagues who make it possible to meet those challenges.
What brings you great joy in your life?
I enjoy sharing new experiences and laughter with my family—it feels like I’m collecting memories that will sustain me later in life.
What advice would you give to yourself at age 15?
I would impress upon my younger self the importance of trying new and difficult things—perhaps even something like drama club. Not that I think I would have been good at it; in fact, it probably would have been disastrous at first. But I realize now that I missed out on opportunities to experience ‘spectacular failures’ and all the learning, growth, and great stories that come with them. That said, I doubt my risk-averse, self-conscious 15-year-old self would have taken that advice.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
For me, this question is easier to answer through the eyes of my 15-year-old self, who—as noted above—would probably ignore my words of wisdom. My current life would be unrecognizable to that younger version of me. Seeing myself married, with a home and two grown daughters (one now married herself), would be mind-blowing. However I got here, whether through choices or mostly dumb luck, I’ve become someone with so much to be grateful for, and I’ll take that as a win.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why?
If I could choose one superpower, it would be time travel, if that’s on the table. Most superpowers would probably be taken for granted and grow boring over time, but the ability to witness life at any point in the past would offer limitless opportunities to satisfy my curiosity about history.
If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to and why?
If I don’t get my superpower (see above) and have to pick just one time, I’d go back to the 1950s to interact with my parents and grandparents when they were young. I think that would be both fascinating and illuminating.
If you could share a meal with any individuals, living or dead, who would they be?
I’d be reluctant to sit down with most famous people, since I’d feel like I was the only one benefiting and wasting their time. But Conan O’Brien is different—he’s hilarious and entertaining, and he openly admits to being a bit needy when it comes to making people, even strangers, laugh. With him, I wouldn’t feel so guilty about taking up his time.
